PROFESSION + PASSION = ??

"Join a decent course and get a decent Job and life is all Set" is what most of our parents and teachers taught us.

"Take risks, life is short and thus follow your heart, get away with your conventional jobs and achieve your passion is what most revolutionary movies & inspirational books taught us.

 So what's :

PROFESSION - PASSION ??
PROFESSION = PASSION ??
PROFESSION + PASSION ??

If your PROFESSION lacks PASSION(PROFESSION - PASSION) ,change it !!
Ultimately that's what movies like 3 Idiots & Persuit of Happiness portray. Achievers like  Rajanikanth ,M.S.Dhoni ,Chetan Bhagat proved it.

If your PROFESSION is your PASSION(PROFESSION = PASSION) then you nailed it !!
That's possibly the best Miracle that happened to you and thus keep going.Mark Zukerberg or Amitabh Bachchan probably never crib about their profession cos the are Passionate about their work.

What is PROFESSION + PASSION ?? Is there a way we can make justice to both?Or does liking your Profession also in parallel mean :your passion is possibly not your "PASSION"(Something like you can only love 1 person at once ;) ) ??

People have told me that:
"If you can get paid for your Passion, what more do you need in life?"

But, what if I realise that, somewhere in the back of my mind I was also PASSIONate about my once "PROFESSION". What if I think : "I wish,I could get back"??

A famous Bio-Chemist cum Kannada lyricist (Jayanth Kaikini) once quoted:
"Multi Tasking is a Bliss. People in my lab compliment me for the movie songs I write, My fans have a special respect on me just because I am a Bio-Chemist by profession. I enjoy getting special attention at both places"

May be the fear of failure drives people to multitask as well. Or may be failure could be handled better by multitasking.Small failure in the profession could be overlooked saying I have a PASSION also where I can prove myself,or the other way round saying I have a Profession to fall back on if my PASSION fails sometimes.

Hats off to the people who took a risk of quitting their PROFESSION and achieving their PASSION (or rather choosing the right PROFESSION). The world celebrates them as legends.
Hats off to the people who took a risk and dint succeed remarkably. I am sure, at least a small world around them celebrates them as legends.

Well I think that it's still OK to balance PASSION and PROFESSION,enjoy the multi tasker stardom, security of having 2 places where we could belong to.Of courser a part time sportsman cannot beat Ussain Bolt's 100mtr record or a part time musician may not win a Grammy's award. But, there shall still be small victories and small achievements worth celebrating.

As long as we do something creative ,just PASSION/just PROFESSION/PASSION + PROFESSION/PASSIONS+PROFESSIONS are all fair enough

PS: I wish my Boss reads this and knows that I wont leave my job and run away behind music :P

  1. Charita,
Such a pleasure to see your post (-I had to wait for two years almost-). It is beautiful.
It won't be out of place if I narrate a small incident. My younger brother got a job as a tahsildar. I asked him:`How is the job-satisfaction?' His reply was: `Job itself is a satisfaction'!
